Top flight no-hopers Manchester City luck into an FA Cup fourth round win over Villa at Maine Road despite being outclassed throughout.
Earl Barrett makes his 150th and final appearance in a Villa shirt (149 Starts) to make it W65 D40 L45, 2 Goals, 2 Assists and 8 Bookings across his Villa career. Barrett would move on to Everton for a fee of £2,250,000 days later.
What they Said
"TONY Coton made a spectacular return as City clawed their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup."
TONY Coton made a spectacular return as City clawed their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Coton distinguished himself in the first half with a full length fingertip save from the magical left foot of Steve Staunton.
But it was in the closing stages when Villa threw everything into a replay bid that he really underlined his class.
Disappointed Villa manager Brian Little was another Coton admirer saying:
"He has that certain presence which gives their side a lift and they defended well".
Paul Walsh was another City hero giving them an early boost with a superb seventh minute goal after a great through ball by lan Brightwell.
