Joe Mercer's Villa score three away from home and fail to win for the second time in three as they lose a second successive game to make it eleven wins, twelve draws and eighteen defeats in forty one League games under Mercer.

Meanwhile, winger Tommy Ewing made his final appearance for Villa aged 26 before moving on to Patrick Thistle in July 1964. Ewing played for Villa between 1961-62 and 1963-64 making 45 appearances and scoring 6 goals.
