An own goal and a last minute error by Nigel Sims cost Villa the points as Wally Hazelden shines again.
Eric Houghton's Villa follow up their biggest win of the season with a first defeat in three to make it six wins, four draws and twelve defeats in twenty two division one games this season.
Meanwhile, centre forward Derek Pace made his final appearance for Villa aged 25 before moving on to Sheffield United later this month. Pace played for Villa between 1950-51 and 1957-58 making 107 appearances and scoring 42 goals.
