18 year old Arthur Sabin comes in and provides heroics in goal just as his mentor Nigel Sims did in the previous games, Belying his tender years, Sabin, looked to have the world at this feet starting with the Villa goalkeeping jersey. Tragically this would be his final appearance before his untimely death in March the following year. Arthur Sabin, a Villa great in the making, lost way too early.

The game however was most notable for tragedy as goalkeeper Arthur Sabin made his second and final Villa appearance aged just 18. Arthur, seen as a natural successor to Nigel Sims, would tragically pass away, aged 19, in March 1958 due to kidney disease. Also making their final appearance was winger Ken Roberts before being forced to retire due to injury aged just 21. Roberts played for Villa between 1953-54 and 1957-58 making 39 appearances and scoring 4 goals.
