On This Day
A week after inflicing a 3-0 defeat on Everton the tables are turned as Villa are beaten for the second successive game and the third time in eight games in 1947-48.
Villa are still to score an away goal in four games so far this season.
Villa's defeat however was not too difficult to explain given 'keeper Joe Rutherford was injured following Everton's second goal in the 25' and, suffering from concussion, was handicaped throughout the remainder of the game.
That injury came after Everton's controversial opener which saw the ball kicked out of Rutherford's hands when clearing to leave an open goal for the home side.
Everton's third goal came from a concussed stumble from Rutherford leading to Frank Moss putting through his own goal.
In the second half, during a routine clearance, Rutherford collapsed completely but was revived and played on to full time in no fit state.
The man of the match? Everton's 'keeper Sagar.
