Billy Evans

Player #409 for Aston Villa, William Emmanuel Evans, known as Billy Evans, played as a forward for the club. Billy played for Villa between 1946-47 and 1948-49 making 7 appearances and scoring 3 goals.

Billy was born in Aston, less than a mile from Villa Park, on 5 September 1921 and made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 26 April 1947 at the age of 25.

Villa had signed Billy from Linread Works FC in August 1946 and he signed professional forms with Villa the following month, September 1946.

Billy arrived at Villa Park having learnt his trade as part of the Birmingham Works football environment and immediately lit up the first team from his debut at the end of the 1946-47 season. A dashing inside forward with speed and a good shot, Billy hit 3 goals in 4 appearances in his debut season but he was only to appear in the league for Villa on a further 2 occasions the following season.

Billy’s FA Cup debut was his final game for Villa, on Saturday, 22 January 1949, his only game for the club that season having not featured at all in the league, before moving on to Notts County in June 1949.

Billy had played under manager Alex Massie.

Billy passed away from lung cancer in Grimsby in August 1960 aged just 38.
