On This Day
Villa beat First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers to reach the League Cup Semi Finals for the second time in three seasons.
Savo Miloลกeviฤ makes his 25th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it W14 D6 L5, 9 Goals, 4 Assists and 2 Bookings at a goal involvement rate of one for every 1.92 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
What they Said
"While Brian Little's side had controlled a poor first period, they were forced on to the back foot after the break as the 7,000 or so Wolves fans saw their side make a nonsense of the 35 League places between the clubs."
Johnson the hero as Villa ride their luck
TOMMY JOHNSON claimed his fourth goal in five games to propel Aston Villa into the Coca-Cola Cup semi-finals at the expense of neighbouring Wolves at Villa Park last night.
While Brian Little's side had controlled a poor first period, they were forced on to the back foot after the break as the 7,000 or so Wolves fans saw their side make a nonsense of the 35 League places between the clubs.
But although Alan Wright twice cleared off the line and Don Goodman thundered an effort against the post, the Premiership's meanest defence would not be breached.
And Johnson capitalised on Villa's good fortune with a 66th minute winner.
Dwight Yorke released Gary Charles and his cross was poked home by ยฃ2m man Johnson.
