On This Day
Villa suffer a surprise defeat to Chelsea as they lose for the second time in 11 games under Brian Little to fall back to 7th in the table.
Savo Milošević makes his 10th appearance in a Villa shirt to make it W5 D3 L2, 3 Goals, 2 Assists and 1 Booking so far in his Villa career at a goal involvement rate of one for every 2.00 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
What they Said
"Manager Glenn Hoddle has decided not to pay his players draw bonuses and they always looked capable of boosting their pay packets as Villa missed a series of chances."
Dennis Wise shrugged aside midweek disappointment with England to hoist Chelsea up the Premiership table.
Villa never lived up to their second-in-the-table status and rarely played with the confidence expected from a side unbeaten in seven matches.
Wise was substituted during England's insipid draw in Norway but at Villa Park managed to grab the goal that had eluded him at the Ulleval stadium.
England coach Terry Venables, though, cannot call on Mark Hughes and it was the Welsh international who cleverly set up Wise for his 72nd minute decider.
He controlled David Lee's pass and held the ball intelligently until Wise arrived to drill his pass beyond Mark Bosnich.
Manager Glenn Hoddle has decided not to pay his players draw bonuses and they always looked capable of boosting their pay packets as Villa missed a series of chances.
Dmitri Kharine dealt easily with a couple of long-range Savo Milosevic pot shots and Kharine touched a fierce lan Taylor volley against the post.
