Mick played for Villa between 1963-64 and 1972-73 making 318 appearances and scoring once and was well on his way to being a record appearance holder when injury struck, ending his career. Earlier in his career Wright had a penchant for transfer requests as struggling Villa fell down the leagues however his was a crucial role in Villa's dominating season of 1971-72 and hopes remained that he could replicate his form at a higher level before his injury struck.
