Villa make it successive League wins to sit top of the early second division table as they beat relegated first division Huddersfield at Villa Park with goals from Vowden and Graydon but Villa lose talisman Bruce Rioch to a broken wrist that threatens to upset the balance of Vic Croweโs small squad.
Vic Crowe's Villa make it consecutive League wins at the start of the season as Huddersfield are dispatched at Villa Park.
Meanwhile, Mick Wright made his final appearance for Villa aged just 25. Mick played for Villa between 1963-64 and 1972-73 making 318 appearances and scoring once and was well on his way to being a record appearance holder when injury struck, ending his career. Earlier in his career Wright had a penchant for transfer requests as struggling Villa fell down the leagues however his was a crucial role in Villa's dominating season of 1971-72 and hopes remained that he could replicate his form at a higher level before his injury struck.
