With second placed QPR having played their game in hand they sit nine points clear of third place Villa and with just six points remaining to be won after Villaโs draw with Luton, what had been a foregone conclusion for a long time was confirmed, there would be no second successive promotion for Vic Crowe and Ron Wylie.
Vic Crowe's Villa make it four unbeaten but are held to a goal-less draw by Luton. As a result, Villa make it seventeen wins, thirteen draws and nine defeats in thirty nine League games. With just six points left to play for, Villa's bid for a second successive promotion is over.
