On This Day
Villa are well beaten by fourth division Aldershot as Nigel Sims blunders twice under pressure but saves Villa from an even heavier defeat.
Joe Mercer's Villa's season hits a new low in an otherwise poor campaign as they are beaten by fourth division Aldershot in the third round FA Cup replay.
As a result Villa have just one win in nine and face an uncertain future in the top flight without a Cup run to look forward to.
Meanwhile, midfielder Vic Crowe made his final appearance for Villa before moving on to Peterborough United. Crowe played for Villa between 1954-55 and 1963-64 making 351 appearances and scoring 12 goals.
