Bob was born in Small Heath, just 4 miles from Villa Park on 23 May 1943 and made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 7 March 1964 aged 20,
Villa had signed Bob from St. Andrewโs Boysโ Club and he signed professional forms with the club in September 1961.
Bob was the 61st custodian of the Villa goal in professional football and appeared for Villa in 9 consecutive games up to the end of the 1963-64 season making his final appearance for Villa on Saturday, 18 April 1964 before moving on to Cardiff City for a fee of ยฃ2,000 in August 1964.
Across his 9 games with Villa Bob conceded 19 goals at a rate of 2.11 goals per game. Those figures placed Bob behind the levels of regular Villa โkeepers of the period Nigel Sims (1.50 in 409) and Geoff Sidebottom (1.74 in 88) and contemporary John Gavan (1.92 in 12).
Bob had played under Villa manager Joe Mercer.
