Cammie Fraser
Player #499 for Aston Villa, John Cameron Fraser, known as Cammie Fraser, played as a full back for the club.
Cammie played for Villa in 1962-63 and 1963-64 making 40 appearances and scoring once.
Cammie was born in Blackford, Perthshire, Scotland on 24 May 1941 and made his debut appearance for Villa on Monday, 12 November 1962 aged 21.
Villa had signed Cammie from Dunfermline Athletic for a fee of £24,500 in October 1962. A fee which paid for Dunfermline’s then new main stand.
Cammie made 29 league and cup appearances in his debut season including playing in both legs of the 1963 League Cup Final against Birmingham City.
Cammie was to play his final game for Villa on Monday, 6 April 1964 after which a contractual dispute led him quitting Villa before joining his wife’s hairdressing business in London.
Cammie did however return to football in February 1965 with Birmingham City, who paid Villa a £9,000 compensation fee for his services.
Cammie had played under Villa manager Joe Mercer.
