Joe Mercer had set a target of 30 points by Christmas to be sure Villa were on track for promotion, they were now on 31 points, it was 28 November.
Villa face Scunthorpe United for the first time in competitive football, Scunthorpe become the 88th team that the Villa first team has played in League or Cup football.
Joe Mercer's Villa continue their extraordinary season as they record a second successive 5-0 win, following on from their 11-1 annihilation of Charlton to make it twenty one goals in three games and thirteen wins, five draws and two defeats in twenty division two games so far this season as their excellent start to life in the second tier continues.
