Villa's unbeaten home record goes after four successive Villa Park victories.
Despite dominating play in the early stages a defensive error from Tommy Mort gifts Everton the lead, five minutes later they scored again to leave Villa stunned and trailing 0-2 with just a quarter of an hour played.
Villa fight back however and first Jack Mandley contributes his 7th assist of the season for Eric Houghton to pull one back before Houghton returns the favour and Villa level. Everton score again to take the points.
Villa lose for the second time in four games to make it six wins, a draw and three defeats in ten division one games this season.
Villa now have two clean sheets in ten games in 1931-32.
Villa fall to joint ninth, still having played two games less than those around them and face another tough fixture next - 3rd placed Arsenal at Highbury.
