What they Said
โWe have George Hemmings. Young midfielder, but he's training with us, knowing, tactically everything we need. He has huge potential, & maybe it's a moment he can help us.
โThere are five days to finish the window. Everything we said before, only injuries can change it. Like Luiz [he] is a player joining us because of central midfield injuries.โ
Unai Emery, pre-match.
"I told myself if I came back to England, Villa would be a special team to come back to. I have so many great memories, and now I'm here to create more.
"Since I left the club, I've pretty much watched every game. The club is getting bigger and better.โ
Tammy Abraham
โAbraham, you know him, because he was playing here, 6-7 years ago.
โAnd when we let (Donyell) Malen leave, we had in our mind to replace him, and Tammy Abraham was one of the players.
โWe were following him, and to have two strikers with Ollie Watkins was our objective, and of course, we are so excited about how he can help us from now until the end of the season.โ
Unai Emery on Tammy Abraham.
โWe are trying every small detail, or big details to try to get for ourselves.
โAnd one of them, of course, after qualifying, is to try to get this advantage. But not only for this advantage, as well because we want to win the match.
โWe must build our team being so, so demanding in everything we are doing. And tomorrow, to win the match is our objective, a clear objective, after we are in the top eight.
โAnd, of course, to finish first in the group is the next objective we can have. And every player they are in the same way, and how much important is this competition for us? We must show each match playing.
โTomorrow, I am looking forward to watching, with the players we have, how we are going to play, and how are we going to respond.
โOf course, we qualified last week in the top eight, but tomorrow, we will compete in the same idea we are doing, and how we can continue building the team, our structure.
โI am excited. I am excited in Europa League and excited how the players responded in Newcastle, really fantastic.
โI think we are in good form, being consistent, even with the defeat we had against Everton last week, but we believe in how we are, the club as well, working in everything we need.
โWe are finishing the transfer window in a few days, and of course, I want to close everything, and to be ready for how we will face the next matches, the next competitions we have, and of course, we have in front a lot of huge challenges, and exciting challenges to get.โ
โLeon Bailey, his adaptation is so quick. Tammy Abraham, more or less, I think he knows a lot about the club and training ground, facilities, and only his adaptation tactically in everything we will need, but I think heโs going to get it quick.
โThey are players; they were here before. And how we are now, as well, with the possibilities to be this year, performing in the level we are, and keeping it in the top position in the table, in the league, and in Europa League, as well, being contender to be, until the last moment, competing in it, I think we are motivated, and we are excited.
โAnd of course, with the circumstances we had before, last summer, or now, in the transfer window, and with some players getting injured, we must keep going forward, and as well as strongly as possible.
โBut the players, they are responding fantastic with their responsibility. They are so, so responsible as well, and getting mature, and adding a lot of experiences in different competitions, and through the Premier League, as well, being in the top position, last year, two years ago, this year, and of course, this is something we can feel as a very good progression we are doing, but to keep it is our next challenge.
โSalzburg, we respect them a lot, because they are a team, usually very potential (with) young players, and how they are playing always with their idea in all Red Bull clubs, is the same.
โMy experience, I played against them four or five years ago in Europa League, and it was very difficult. We won, but it was very difficult.
โAnd how they are playing now, after our analysis as well, is the same. They are so, so aggressive, intense, trying to recover the ball as well as possible, high press, getting a lot of duels.
โAnd then with the ball, they want to keep the ball, possession, they want to dominate, and tomorrow, we will play a match, focusing and respecting them, and then understanding as well, it will be difficult to beat them.
โOf course, the opportunity, (beating) us to be in the next round, itโs clear, they will need to win, and we must play for us, and we must play for our supporters in Villa Park, and respecting them, and of course, in the gameplan, tomorrow, weโll set with the players, we will understand better how difficult it will be, the match tomorrow.โ
Unai Emery, pre-match.
โThe time passes so quick, and where the club is going, itโs just amazing to be part of that and to be part of this team
โItโs a really good group, a really good family, and we are really enjoying our time together. Itโs just a big pleasure to be here.โ
Lucas Digne, pre-match.
"With Harvey, it is not changing. We have our idea. I spoke with Harvey clearly. I said before that he is a fantastic guy.
"He was on the bench against Newcastle on Sunday and was there if we needed help from him; he was ready to play.
"Tomorrow he is in the squad as well, but it is not changing the situation he has now."
Unai Emery on Harvey Elliott.
"Good evening. Now we are in the top eight, and we want to finish first. And of course, to keep going with our mentality here at home, with our support, and we must play to transmit our energy.
"We have made some changes, but overall we are playing with players who are used to playing in different competitions."
Unai Emery, pre-match.
"It's a really nice moment for him; he works hard in training and gives his all. He is probably a bit shy and nervous more than I'd like, but he shows his quality in training.
"We know he's got the ability; it's about applying himself. I knew he was locked in and engaged, and that's what we want from him.
"Sometimes he can get a bit disengaged - that's where you can probably lose it. As a young player, I was exactly the same; when you get older, you are focused more.
"He was focused the moment he came on, and it was a really nice moment for him.
"I've taken a shine to him; he's a really nice kid, and we like when we train with him and want him to do well."
Morgan Rogers on match-winner Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba
"I'm very happy and of course today was a match played with some potential players we have who are young in the academy, developing with them.
"And today they had an opportunity to play, George [Hemmings], then Jamal [Jimoh-Aloba] and Kadan [Young]. Of course, Jamal scored a goal, which was really fantastic.
"We were expecting a difficult match because they needed to win. They are brave playing forward. They were trying to get into individual duels with us.
"In Europe, with the experiences we have, we know how difficult each match is. Today, playing 90 minutes, creating this energy with our supporters is something we can feel, and as a competition where we can be protagonists and get something.
"It is necessary to give them chances, and those three players play, George and then Jamal and Kadan, I think it's a good opportunity for them. They got experiences and played how we needed in the plan we have with them.
"To get a victory, to play with some players like them and create in this competition something with our supporters' feelings for it... I think it is very important.
"It's very important to have chances to play the young players, the opportunity for them to show their progress. I think they did a very good job
"We have a plan with them. We need to protect them when they are playing. We need as well to get a plan in their development as a player, every day training with us and then in official matches like today. It was fantastic how we did everything."
Unai Emery, post-match.
"It's a proud moment for me on my European debut. It's just really nice to make my family proud and stuff because of all the hard work. I've had a lot of lows this season and a lot of highs, but this is the top."
Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba
โItโs a lovely moment for Jama.
โObviously, we see the hard work he puts in day in, day out.
โThe manager is very hard on him, as are the rest of us, because we know his potential.
โBut itโs a lovely moment for him.โ
Tyrone Mings on Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba
โOne side is this competition, and we want to try to get through it our way, being protagonists and of course getting a way for a trophy, getting a way for play and be getting emotion with our supporters.
โAnd we got it, because today we won, and as well we created some emotions with our supporters, with the energy after we were losing 2-0 to react.
โHow we came back, the result I thought it was really fantastic, sharing everything with our supporters and transmitting them our energy, and they were transmitting us as well their feelings.
โThis is the way we want to build here, in this competition, in Villa Park, with our supporters, trying to get so, so motivated for this competition, and today was a fantastic day for it.โ
Unai Emery, post-match.
