Billy Myerscough is the hero again as he scores his second goal in a Villa shirt following his winner on Thursday that secured a place in the FA Cup final.
Jimmy Dugdale and Stan Lynn recover from their injuries and take their places but Peter McParland is ruled out, Lynn however is injured again and leaves the field of play for 10 first half minutes to return with a bandaged eye.
Villa's victory over Preston is the title chasing side's first defeat since November as Villa come out on top in the battle of the Division's form teams.
Villa make it fourteen games and ten wins, thirteen draws and nine defeats in thirty two Division One games this season under Eric Houghton.
