On This Day
Villa play their 10th game in 24 days and 4th in the last 7 days and finish the League season with a second successive defeat in far from ideal preparation for the FA Cup final with Manchester United.
Villa approach their final game of the League campign with a sense of trepidation as no player wants to miss the final with injury, as such the fixture is as meaningless as it is unwelcome.
Happily however Villa now have a week's rest before their Wembley date - their longest break between fixtures since the middle of February.
Villa finish tenth in the table having recorded fourteen wins, fifteen draws and thirteen defeats in forty two Division One games this season under Eric Houghton.
