MATCHDAY QUOTES

"I don't know what went on. just that the referee booked both players [Savo Milošević and David Beckham].

"But if Savo did spit then I will take some action internally. that's for sure.

"If he has done it then I would obviously look at that as something to be dealt with.

“I’ll take a look at it and take some action if need be.”

Brian Little.

*Evening Herald*
Thursday, 2 January 1997

SAVO MILOSEVIC will feel the full force of Brian Little's discipline when the Aston Villa boss examines the video nasty in which his Yugoslav striker played the starring role.

Little was surprised to hear that Milosevic is had been captured on camera as he showered Manchester United midfielder David Beckham with a volley of spittle during last night's goalless draw at Old TralTord.

But he left no-one in any doubt about what the outcome will be if he arrives at the same conclusion reached by Beckham and the watching millions that the former Partizan Belgrade forward was guilty of a despicable act punishable by far more than the yellow card brandished at both players by referee David Elleray.

"I don't know what went on. just that the referee booked both players." was Little's post-match confession. "But if Savo did spit then I will take some action internally. that's for sure. "If he has done it then I would obviously look at that as something to be dealt with. I'll take a look at it and take some action if need be.” There was no doubt that Milosevic was fouled by Beckham two minutes before the break, but his reaction was unforgivable and it snapped the temper of the usually mild-mannered England starlet as well as sparking a melee in which players from both sides became embroiled.
