"Daley gave Villa the lead after only 100 seconds and Luton needed some fine goalkeeping from Les Sealey to survive the early onslaught."

*Sunday World (Dublin)*
Sunday, 2 April 1989

LUTON-born lan Olney gave Aston Villa their first win for nine games, but pushed his home town club closer to the second division.

The 19-year-old substitute replaced Injured winger Tony Daley and was on the field for only three minutes before he forced his first league goal from a centre by Nigel Callaghan.

Olney's 35th minute strike put Luton in desperate trouble with only one point from eight games as they approach the Littlewoods Cup final next weekend.

Daley gave Villa the lead after only 100 seconds and Luton needed some fine goalkeeping from Les Sealey to survive the early onslaught.

They eventually hit back to equalise with a header by Ricky Hill after 26 minutes but their luck was out when a shot from Raphael Meade rebounded from the bar.

Brilliant saves by Sealey and Nigel Spink added to the thrills of the second half and Villa escaped again when Meade hit the woodwork.
