DAVID PLATT scored four goals in 18 minutes as Aston Villa swamped Ipswich to book their place in the Littlewoods Cup quarter-finals. He took the ball round goalkeeper Craig Forrest for his first after 59 minutes, headed a second from Tony Daley's cross and then waltzed through the defence for an 11-minute hat-trick.
Outclassed Ipswich had no idea how to cope with Villa's blistering pace and their misery was completed when Platt jabbed in his fourth after 70 minutes.
Ipswich did manage two consolation goals in the last seven minutes but Villa marched into the last eight.
Scotsman Alan Mclnally having given them the perfect start with two goals in the first 15 minutes.
