"That was the most inept, disgraceful display it has ever been my 'pleasure' to watch from any team I have managed.

"But having said that. Forest are a very, very good team.

"We were totally taken apart by a far superior team.

"It was the most inept, disgraceful performance in my 17 years in management.

“We had no spirit, know-how or desire.

“At the moment I haven’t a clue what went wrong.

“I don’t want this happening again. We will be putting in some hard work this week, I can tell you.

“The only record we set at Forest was in the speed we got away from the place.

”I don’t know what the reason was for the way we played. Perhaps it was giving the first goal away so early.

“But I wanted them to sit on the coach thinking about what happened all the way home.”

Graham Taylor.

FOREST manager Brian Clough received a standing ovation after his midweek confrontation with Forest supporters, and

Fans cheer hero Clough SOCCER manager Brian Clough got a standing ovation yesterday when he appeared for his team's First Division game with Aston Villa.

Thousands of supporters in the main stand of the Nottingham Forest City ground stood and clapped their hands above their heads.

It was the first time fans had a chance to show their feelings following Mr Clough's actions on Wednesday when he hit out at youngsters who ran on to the field following his team's Littlewoods Cup victory against QPR.

The two sides were all but ignored as they trooped on to the field everyone was waiting for Mr Clough, who is to be questioned by police following the incidents at the Forest ground.

Before the game Mr Clough apologised to his players for his actions after the QPR match, which was seen by millions in television replays. Mr Clough walked the 20 yards to his touchline dugout, but gave no sign of any emotion as the fans cheered him.

By the end of the match the fans were on their feet again to acclaim Forest's players after their best league win of the season.

It was also their seventh win on the trot, Steve Hodge giving them a perfect start with a goal after three minutes.

Forest Increased their lead ten minutes after half-time as Garry Parker rolled a free-kick to Stuart Pearce and the England full-back lashed a 20-yard shot into the net.

Parker scored Forest's third after Villa's defence failed to clear a cross by Carr.

Forest's full-back Brian Laws wrapped up the victory with his first goal for the club from close range with just three minutes to go.
