Villa lose in the League Cup Quarter final to a West Ham side struggling in second from bottom in the League.
Villa lose as a hot-headed Martin Keown errs again by conceding a senseless free kick to allow West Ham to open a two goal lead from which Villa cannot recover in time.
In truth though Villa were second best throughout as only a penalty save from Nigel Spink stops them falling behind after 5' before a defensive mix up allows West Ham to open the scoring 10 minutes later.
Derek Mountfield contributes his first assist in a Villa shirt on his 24th appearance (23 Starts) to make it W10 D5 L9, 3 Goals and 1 Assist so far in his Villa career.

"Nigel Spink had superbly kept out Liam Brady's early spot-kick."
West Ham overcame a third minute missed penalty to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Upton Park.
Paul Ince, who scored twice in their memorable 4-1 defeat of Liverpool in an earlier round, fired the Hammers ahead with a 15th minute 20-yarder to restore confidence after Nigel Spink had superbly kept out Liam Brady's early spot-kick.
David Kelly made it 2-0 five minutes from time, with David Platt hitting back for Villa three minutes later.
