MATCHDAY QUOTES
"I'm not saying we deserved to get something out of the game, but we should have done."
Graham Taylor.
*Sunday Tribune*
Sunday, 2 October 1988
AN eighth minute goal by David Hirst was sufficient to give Sheffield Wednesday victory over Villa who failed to equalise in a second-half fight back during which their midfield man Andy Gray was sent off.
Villa had chances particularly in the 75th minute when a penalty kick by Stuart Gray was brilliantly palmed away at the foot of a post by goalkeeper Kevin Pressman.
Pressman redeemed his error for it was he who brought down Chris Price in the area as he fastened onto a poor back-pass from Nigel Worthington.
But Villa's effort faltered five minutes later when Gray was given his marching orders for striking Gary Megson in the face.
