On This Day
Villa stop a run of five draws with defeat and are now without a win in seven having scored 10 goals in 10 games so far this season.
It is chaos on the pitch however as referee Frank Coultas is incapacitated early in the game requiring linesman S. G. Finning to take over in the middle whilst a Bolton player, 12th man Eric Oldham takes over on the line.
Clearly that isn't acceptable and an experienced official from the watching spectators is called for.
Coming forward is one M. S. Price a Birmingham Works referee who takes over from Oldham.
A quarter of an hour later, Coultas returns and takes over from Price on the line.
It gets weirder as it is later revealed that Coultas was not even the designated referee for the match but was a replacement for the appointed Reg Windle, somthing Villa were only made aware of shortly before kick off.
