Arthur Proudler

Player #445 for Aston Villa, Arthur Proudler, played as a half back for the club. Arthur played for Villa in 1954-55 making a single appearance.

Arthur cemented his reputation as a youthful prospect as a wing half in junior football around Halesowen before joining Villa after a couple of games for the third team.

Originally a wing half, this native of the Black Country developed into a centre half, blessed with a good shot and a successful striker of penalties

Arthur joined the services in December 1947 and wouldn’t make his debut for the club - his sole first team appearance - until the 1954-55 season.

Arthur was born in Kingswinford, just 15 miles from Villa Park, on 3 October 1929 and made his sole appearance for Villa on Saturday, 6 November 1954 aged 25.

Villa had signed Arthur from Halesowen Town in December 1947 waiting 7 years for his first appearance before moving on to Crystal Palace in June 1956.

Arthur had played under Villa manager Eric Houghton.

Arthur passed away in Ormskirk on 1 October 2000 aged just 71.
