Villa have multiple chances but fail to take any as Garry Thompson has a goal ruled out for Warren Aspinall standing off side, Steve Hunt and Neil Cooper hit the bar, Aspinall hits the post, Tony Daley hits a 30 yarder that Dave Beasant had to save magnificently and Neale Cooper’s 66’ minute strike is fumbled by Beasant without anyone following up. Despite being winless in nine, Villa climb to 20th, one point off safety with bottom side Newcastle up next.
