On This Day
Just as they had done so against Leeds, Villa open up a 2-0 cushion at half time only to succumb to a second half fightback but this time there is no point as they are beaten by Tottenham’s three goals in six minutes.
Ron Saunders' Villa lose for the second time in three to make it ten wins, eleven draws and seven defeats in twenty eight division one games this season.
What they Said
"I am still shell-shocked.
“Of course, no side should ever surrender a two-goal lead. But I could see it coming.
"Our midfield were never in it today and that is why Tottenham were allowed to come back when they must have thought they were heading for defeat.
“I could have locked them in the dressing room and spent two hours trying to find out what went wrong. But what good would that do them?
"They know they threw it away without me saying anything to them.
“The time for hard speaking will come when they arrive for training on Monday."
Ron Saunders.
