Villa play out a bore draw at Wembley in the League Cup final against Everton but there are trophies won regardless as Andy Gray wins both the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. It was a day of disaster all over at Wembley though as two coaches from the official party collide, Brian Little goes to hospital for a late ankle injury and both sets of players have to pause the game in the second half to look for a spur dropped by the marching band at half time.

MATCHDAY QUOTES

“It’s the supporters we feel most sorry for tonight.

“They expected us, as the favourites, to destroy Everton.

“But we never reacted to the occasion and I am still trying to work out what went wrong.

“It might even have been better if we had lost rather than play like that.

“Just look at them. They have forgive us already.

“Anyone would thing we have won the Cup.

“We will have to make certain that we win at Hillsborough and do it in style.”

Chris Nicholl.

“We just never got started.

“The players froze and never pressurised Everton as we all know they can.”

Ron Saunders.
