AVFC HISTORY MATCH SUMMARY

Villa and QPR share the spoils in an outstanding game at Villa Park in the League Cup semi final replay as a John Deehan brace is cancelled out in extra time to leave the two clubs facing a second replay at Highbury.

MATCH QUOTES

Villa.gif
2509-2.png
"I thought we did more than enough to have won comfortably. โ€œAll they had were half chances and they took them. In fact they took two out of three of them. "Andy Gray struggled for a lot of the match and I thought about taking him off for the extra-time period but he wanted to stay and I decided to let him in case it affected the other players. "But this was a wonderful advertisement for football. โ€œWe took a lot of stick after the Ipswich match on Saturday and I hope that the people who handed it out then will dish out the praise now. โ€œThere were long periods in the game when it seemed that we must be on our way to Wembleyโ€”but there were also little spells in the game when the gremlins were not on our side. โ€œBut it was a good effort by Rangers to pick themselves up after the penalty had been awarded and after John Burridge had produced that marvellous save." Ron Saunders.
