Two mistakes, a missed header from Chris Nicholl and a slip by John Gidman, gift Manchester United two goals at Villa Park but Ron Saunders’ men don’t waver and put three past Alex Stepney to win the game despite playing nowhere nearer as well as in their three goal defeat to Liverpool last time out. Ron Saunders can celebrate his 43rd birthday as just 14 seconds into the second half, Andy Gray puts Villa ahead before scoring the winner on 54’ and Ray Graydon can even miss a penalty as Villa climb back to third in the table.
