Ron Saunders' Villa beat second division Millwall in the League Cup to qualify for the semi finals. Meanwhile, winger Steve Hunt made his final appearance for Villa before moving on to New York Cosmos in February 1977. Hunt played for Villa between 1974-75 and 1976-77 but made just seven appearances. Hunt would return for a second spell with Villa in 1986.
