Villa had played their first New Years Day fixture in January 1891 and have now played just two home games on 1st January in 58 years.
Villa lose for the 15th time in 22 games on New Years Day.
Home advantage does Villa no favours as they ship four first half goals to end the game beaten by Blackpool in atrocious conditions.
It is Villa's sixth defeat in eight and comes just days after their biggest win of the season.
Villa fall back to bottom of the table as Sheffield United and Everton win to move four points clear of Alex Massie's side.
25 games into the 42 game League season it is clear that Villa will need a miraculous recovery if they are to avoid a second relegation in their history.
