On This Day
Villa record their third win in four games and first home League win of the season after three consecutive defeats at Villa Park.
Legendary Villa winger Eric Houghton makes the last of his 383 appearances during which time he scored 174 goals before moving on to Notts County in December. Houghton would return to Villa as manager in September 1953 and lead them to their seventh FA Cup win in 1957.
