Tommy Dodds

Player #402 for Aston Villa, Thomas Black Dodds, known as Tommy Dodds, played as a forward for the club in 1946-47 making just a single appearance.

Like team-mate Johnny Dixon, Tommy hails from Hebburn on Tyne, and served in the Royal Navy during WW2 having worked in the shipyards in his native north east before his move to Villa from North Shields in January 1939.

Tommy was born in South Shields on 20 December 1918 and made his sole appearance for Villa on Saturday, 31 August 1946 at the age of 27.

Villa had signed Tommy from North Shields but he didn’t finish the season with Villa as he was used in a part exchange deal that saw Trevor Ford join Villa from Swansea Town.

Tommy played under Villa manager Alex Massie.

Tommy passed away in South Shields in April 1998 aged 79
