  • Freddie Haycock gives Villa a deserved lead in the snow at Stamford Bridge but against the run of play Chelsea score twice, with the winner in the 86' to leave Villa with their first defeat in nine and only their fifth in their last twenty top flight games.

  • Villa's eight game unbeaten run comes to make it fifteen wins, seven draws and twelve defeats in thirty four division one games so far this season. 

  • Goalkeeper Fred Biddlestone made the last of his 160 appearances for Villa across ten seasons aged 34 before moving on to Mansfield Town in August 1939.
