Jimmy Hogan's Villa lose to Preston in the FA Cup for the second successive season but this time do so in the fourth round rather than the semi final.
Meanwhile, forward Frank Shell made the last of his 31 pre WW2 appearances for Villa during which time he scored thirteen goals before moving on to the newly renamed Birmingham City in September 1946.
