Villa play in PL2 for the first time in over two months.
Charlie Pavey starts after returning from loan, as does I-Lani Edwards, who makes his first PL2 appearance of the season. Also returning is Yeimar Mosquera, who has recovered from injury.
Kadan Young makes his first start of the PL2 campaign, but there’s no place for Rory Wilson, who continues to be linked with a loan move away.

Villa are now winless in four in all competitions and fall to 14th in the PL2 table.

Match Report:
Villa drew 0-0 away to Derby County in a tense match on Friday evening, marking their return to Premier League 2 action. Jimmy Shan’s Young Lions absorbed periods of pressure at Derby’s Moor Farm training base, but couldn’t capitalise on their chances, resulting in a shared point. The draw placed Villa 14th in the PL2 standings after ten matches, with four wins and four losses.

In their first PL2 game of the year, Shan chose a formation with three defenders and three attackers. Kadan Young was supported by I-Lani Edwards and Ben Broggio forward, while Yeimar Mosquera started in central defence.

Villa’s wing-backs, Luke Lynch and Trai-Varn Mulley, combined well early on, with Lynch charging forward and passing to Mulley, whose shot was saved by goalkeeper Jack Thompson five minutes in.

Derby, initially playing aggressively, quickly took control, led by experienced EFL frontman Kayden Jackson, who aimed to score first. After 19 minutes, Owen Eames nearly scored when his shot hit the inside of the post after a sharp save by Villa keeper and captain Sam Proctor earlier.

Derby continued to attack, testing Proctor again with Jamie Waehling’s long-range shot, which he caught. Despite struggling early, Villa regained composure in the first half, finishing stronger and more likely to score before the halftime break.

Four minutes before the break, Charlie Pavey intercepted a pass and shot narrowly wide, while Broggio missed a volley from the corner. In stoppage time, Mosquera headed another corner over the bar, leaving the first half scoreless.

The second half was dominated by Derby, who created multiple chances to score. Proctor was outstanding, making crucial saves—initially from Cameron Wilson, then multiple times from Eames—including a fingertip save after Eames was set up by Jackson.

Both teams sought a late winning goal in stoppage time, but the game ended in a draw, leaving the teams level in the East Midlands.
