"Hodgetts next shot over the Wanderers' bar, and for a long time the Villa had slightly the best of matters, particularly towards the close, when Parkinson saved in magnificent style."

SATURDAY'S FOOTBALL MATCHES
THE LEAGUE.
Aston Villa v. Bolton Wanderers.
Played at Bolton before 8,000 spectators. The weather was exceedingly mild, but the ground was very heavy.
The Wanderers kicked off and at once attacked, but Cox drove them back and their own goal was threatened. Jones relieved, and the Wanderers once more attacked, and after a deal of pressure Davenport scored the first goal with a flying kick.
Continuing to have the best of the matter the Wanderers forced the pace, and a terrific scrimmage occurred in the Villa goal mouth. Nothing resulted, and a minute later the Villa had hard lines in not equalising. Cassidy next shot over visitors' bar. The Villa rushed down the Wanderers' end, and Brown shot through. He was, however, adjudged off-side.
The Wanderers had afterwards the best matters, and the manner in which Warner saved was nothing short of miraculous. Time after time he saved, and thoroughly deserved applause. Nothing more resulted, the Wanderers leading by 1 goal to none the interval.
During the second half the game was quite exciting as formerly, both sides playing up well.
The Wanderers attacked, Weir and Cassidy each having hard lines in not scoring.
Hodgetts next shot over the Wanderers' bar, and for a long time the Villa had slightly the best of matters, particularly towards the close, when Parkinson saved in magnificent style.
Shot after shot was put in, but none scored.
The Wanderers at length scored again, and thus won by 2 goals to nil.
