Player #286 for Aston Villa, Ian William Dickson, played as a centre forward for the club.
Ian played for Villa between 1920-21 and 1923-24 making 83 appearances and scoring at a rate of nearly a goal every other game.
Ian was born in Maxwelltown, Dumfries, Scotland in September 1902 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 26 March 1921 aged 18.
Villa had signed Ian from Queen of the South in January 1921 and he would go on to be a regular starter for Villa in 1921-22 and 1922-23 whilst still in his teens.
In the 1921-22 season Ian scored 28 goals in his 42 appearances, making him top scorer that season and helping the Villa to a 5th place finish.
Ian also played a prominent part in Villa’s 1921-22 FA Cup Campaign hitting 8 goals in 6 games (including a hat trick against Stoke City in the 3rd Round), but trophy winning success eluded him - as it did throughout his time with Villa - as Villa exited in the 4th Round.
Ian’s final appearance came on 8 December 1923 aged just 21 before his move to Middlesbrough for a fee of £3,000.
Ian played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Ian would retire from football due to injury age just 23.
Ian passed away in 1976 aged 74.
