Martin was born in Annfield Plain in May 1899 and he made his sole appearance for Villa on 17 September 1921 aged 22.
Villa had signed Martin from home town club Annfield Plain in June 1920 but he was never to establish himself at Villa and moved on to Durham City in August 1922.
Martin had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Martin passed away in 1962 aged 63.
