Pat Heard is the hero at the Hawthorns as he secures victory for reigning champions and European Cup finalists Villa whilst Cyrille Regis is sent off for Albion after a tussle with Ken McNaught.
Reigning Champions Villa win for the first time in four League games and make it eight Division One wins, five draws and four defeats under Tony Barton.
In total Barton had now led Villa for twenty two games and delivered ten wins, seven draws and five defeats since taking over from Ron Saunders whose record over 35 games in 1981-82 had been fifteen wins, eight draws and twelve losses. Villaโs unsuccessful title defence now consisted of fourteen wins, twelve draws and fourteen defeats after 40 games.
