A poor performance from the officials, a bizarre half time sending off, more horrendous challenges and the massed ranks of 11 Albion defenders stifling the game see Villa - far from their best form - unable to break through and out of the League Cup at the quarter final stage.

"There is no excuse for Tony, as he knows that calling a referee or a linesman what he did can only get him into trouble.
"But where is the sense in it when Alistair Robertson can get away with just a booking for the sort of foul he committed on me in the opening minutes, while a lad gets ordered off for opening his mouth.
"Someone has got to something about it to get the balance right."
