MATCH SUMMARY

Villa are held at the City Ground by Forest but the European finalists remain unbeaten in seven under Tony Barton and now have just three defeats in seventeen under Ron Saunders' successor in a huge about turn in form. Meanwhile, despite Anderlecht having been squarely blamed for the trouble in Belgium after their failure to follow UEFA protocols, the beaten side make increasingly desperate moves to have Villa expelled from the competition in an unseemly response to their European Cup exit.

MATCH QUOTES

“Ban Villa from Euro final' BELGIAN soccer club Andedecht have asked UEFA (the European Football Union) to expel Aston Villa from the European Cup. “The English champions reached the final on Wednesday when they held Anderlecht to a 0-0 draw in the second leg of their semi-final in Brussels in a match marred by crowd trouble. “The game was interrupted for several minutes when a small section of Villa fans rioted behind one of the goals. “Anderlecht official Michael Verschueren said to-day that the club had informed UEFA about the incidents and had called for Villa's expulsion or, failing that, a replay of the second leg. “Following the incidents, during which Villa fans clashed with baton-wielding police and Anderlecht supporters, 27 people were taken to hospital. “Verscheuren said the Anderlecht appeal was based on the appearance of a Villa fan on the pitch as Anderlecht striker Kenneth Brylle was about to shoot. “He drove over the Villa bar—the last action before the game was interrupted in the 20th minute. Villa are due to meet West Germany's Bayern Munich in the final in Rotterdam on May 26.” Friday, 23 April 1982 --- “European Cup finalists Aston Villa are appealing to the Sports Minister Neil MacFarlane to help them as UEFA prepare to probe the rioting that marred their semi-final win against Anderlecht. “The Belgians want the club expelled or forced to replay the second leg, this they drew 0-0.” Sunday, 25 April 1982.
