Mick Quinn produced another goal-studded display to leave Villa boss Ron Atkinson fuming.
Big Ron locked his players in the dressing room for half an hour and emerged to rap: "We were consistent - hopeless at the back, hopeless in midfield and crap up front."
In the 52nd minute Lee Hurst headed forward, Robert Rosario flicked it on and Quinn volleyed home.
Three minutes later Kevin Gallacher played Rosario through and his centre to the far post was thumped home by the rotund Scouser.
Then Quinn flicked on for Rosario to beat Nigel Spink with a low shot.
