Holder’s Villa’s grip on the European Cup fails as three defensive errors gift three goals to Juventus in Turin to leave them beaten 2-5 on aggregate and out in the quarter finals. Nigel Spink, Hero of Rotterdam, let Platini’s routine shot trickle over the line on 13’ before he is totally taken out of the game, needs Allan Evans to clear and Juve score from the resultant corner. 1-4 behind on aggregate at half time with twenty to play Ken McNaught is dispossessed on his own penalty spot for Platini to fire home his second.
