Tony Barton's Villa ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ, reigning European Champions, ๐ฅ lose to Notts County for the second successive game, and are this time hammered in the League to make it ๐ฉ four wins and ๐ฅ five losses in ๐ nine League games this season.
Villa fall back to 10th in the table with Peter Withe's ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ penchant for dissent getting him in trouble yet again.
Centre forward Peter Withe ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ is ๐ฅ sent off for the first time in ๐ 104 appearances in a Villa shirt and now has ๐ฅ one red card and ๐จ 18 bookings to his name.
Left back Pat Heard ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ makes his ๐ 25th appearance in a Villa shirt.
Reserve team midfielder Robert Hopkins ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ gets a surprise call up to the first team for the first time in two and a half years and the first time in 127 games in what would proved to be his third & final appearance in a Villa shirt. Hopkins ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ would be shipped out by Tony Barton ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ in exchange for midfielder Alan Curbishley ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ from Birmingham City and left with a record of ๐ฉ W1 ๐จ D0 ๐ฅ L2, โฝ 1 Goal and ๐ฅ 0 Assists.
There were other records however - As a result of his scant consideration for first team selection, Hopkins ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ holds the record for the lowest appearance ratio of any player in the club's history having being played in just 2.34% of Villa's games played from his debut to his final appearance.
And Hopkins did have the memory of being the scorer of Villa's most unlikely goal until the appearance of Michael Boulding ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ in 2002 after he made a 92โ appearance as a substitute "sent on, more as a token gestureโ, scoring within a minute and seconds before the final whistle.

Tony Barton shocks by giving a start to Robert Hopkins (first since March 1980) in what unsurprisingly will prove to be the underwhelming Hopkins' last game, and which will add a chink to the Barton armour just months after winning the European Cup. In addition, Allan Evans, Pat Heard and replace Brendan Ormsby, Ken McNaught and Tony Morley.
Funny story.. Robert Hopkins still talks of the few games he played for Villa and how he was always intent on leaving the League and European Champions for lower league football. Bless. To be fair though, no one would have a clue who on earth he was otherwise.
