MATCHDAY QUOTES

โ€œI was very disappointed with Barcelona, they have quality players and donโ€™t need to play like they did.

โ€œIt was only my playersโ€™ restraint which prevented it getting even worse.

โ€œI donโ€™t feel we intimidated them at all and there is no reason why we should fear sanctions from UEFA.

โ€œPeople are continually knocking British football but Iโ€™m sure no one wants to see us play the way Barcelona did tonight.

โ€œWhen we looked at it before the game it seemed worth competing in because it is another European tournament, another medal.

โ€œNow my feelings are bitter sweet.

โ€œWe will be without Allan Evans in Europe next time and we could have lost a few more players [through injury] for Saturdayโ€™s FA Cup tie against Wolves.

โ€œI only saw bits and pieces of the Spurs game last year [Cup Winners Cup semi final with Barcelona for which they were heavily fined] but I canโ€™t believe it could have been worse than this.

โ€œPeople keep going on about whatโ€™s wrong with British football and saying that we are inferior to the continentals.

โ€œBut if thatโ€™s the way they want to see us play every Saturday, then I donโ€™t want any part of it.

โ€œI thought there might be some trouble because Barcelona have a reputation for violence away from home and they were coming here to defend a one goal lead.

โ€œBut I never expected anything like this.

โ€œI donโ€™t know why they do it.โ€

Tony Barton.
