Villa score two first-half goals to lead at the break by two to none, even though their performance deserved more. The second half saw greater reward as Darius Vassell scores his second, having run the half the length of the pitch before a penalty put the visitors 4-0 up. Vassell completed his hat-trick to make it five, only for Villaโs 1996-97 habit of letting in silly goals reared its head once again. Vassell, however, hit his fourth and Villaโs sixth to cap off a resounding victory on the road.
