Biography
William Devey
Player #92 for Aston Villa, William Devey, also known as Will Devey, played as a forward for the club in the inside right position.
William represented Villa in the 1892-93 and 1893-94 seasons making a total of 10 appearances.
William was born in Perry Barr, just a mile from the current Villa ground, on 12th April 1865 and made his debut as a 27 year old on 7th January 1893.
Villa had signed William from Wolverhampton Wanderers and he went on to help Villa secure the League Championship in 1893-94.
Although not a regular starter for Villa, in the Championship winning season William made 4 appearances to contribute to the 1893-94 league title.
William’s final game for Villa came on the 3rd March 1894 aged 28 after which he moved on to Walsall Town Swifts.
William played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
William passed away in Perry Barr on the 10th June 1935 aged 70.
